We Are Down to 4 Birds

This afternoon I went to check on my baby birdies and I am sad to report that the runt of the litter didn't make it. I went out there to leave some more bread and saw 4 little mouths opened up and it wasn't until I saw the baby runt beneath one of the other babies that the bird had died. . At that point, I knew the baby didn't make it. Every year I get so attached to these birds that I don't ever want to see a bird not make it but I also know that it is "Natural Selection." Earlier in the day I gave the birdies some milk from an eye dropper and I noticed how small she or he was compared to his/her siblings and that it was only time before the bird would pass away. I wish the other birds luck and I really do hope that the mommy bird will move them so they have a bigger nest. I did take pictures earlier in the day when all of them are alive and will post those tomorrow.

The Booth Family Visits the Dallas Zoo

Today was a great day for the kids. We thought before it got too hot that we would visit the zoo. We arrived at the zoo right when it opened at 9am and it was perfect. We got front row parking and it wasn't very crowded. Now when we left there were a lot of people there and it was getting hot. The kids had a blast though. Brooklyn has been at the zoo but she was a baby and it was Houston. It really was the perfect age for them to go. We were able to see all the exhibits and most of the animals were awake. Towards the afternoon, the animals were getting hot and they were sleeping. Mommy loved the chimpanzees and the giraffes. I think the kids liked them all. Logan and Brooklyn got to feed the giraffes. They thought that was pretty cool. We visited the reptiles and it gave mommy the creeps. I hate crocodiles and there was an albino one. There was a lot of snakes and they just gave me the creeps. Overall the kids did well. By the afternoon, they were ready to go. What was really cool was they had a tram that went around the Safari exhibit so we were able to see many of those animals sitting down. Mommy and daddy didn't tell the kids we were going to the zoo until they woke up this morning. When we told them they were really excited. This was the first big outing for the family and it went pretty well. We were planning on going to San Antonio this summer but that has been put on hold until probably next summer. One more year until the Booth family has a real vacation.

The Baby Birds are 1 Week Old

Today, the baby birds are 1 week old. They are getting so big and it's amazing how much they have grown in 1 week. They are starting to get some feathers on them. Their nest is pretty small for 5 birds but it's pretty funny how they just sleep on top of each other. The 6th birdie did die. I knew that the bird probably wouldn't make it because it was the last one to hatch and it was very tiny. Has daddy says "survival of the fittest." I have attached two cute pictures of the babies.

All the eggs have hatched

This morning the final egg has hatched. The mommy bird has 6 babies to take care of. She is a busy mommy. The daddy seems to help out and watch the mommy and his babies at the top of our house. The daddy bird has some beautiful color on him and red on his stomach and head. It will be very interesting to see how the babies turn out. The kids and I are having so much fun right now with the babies. I have attached a cute picture of the birds sleeping. They really are cute.

Another Egg has Hatched

This morning I checked on my baby birds and saw that one more egg has hatched. The baby birds look so cute. There is only 1 egg left and I hope that it hatches. Every year I have always had one bird not make it. I would rather not have an egg hatch then see one of the birds kicked out of the nest. That is not a pretty sight.

Bluebonnets 2011

On our way home from getting our pictures done, we stopped at the cemetary in Frisco where they have a huge field of bluebonnets. The flowers were fully bloomed and it looked gorgeous. The kids were tired by now but we thought we would take some pictures. We plan on going back in the morning when the kids are ready and anxious to take their pictures.

One more Egg Hatched

After the storm settled down, I checked on the baby birds. I was worried that something might happen after the storm. Nonetheless, I witnessed another egg hatching this morning. It was a pretty cool sight. There are two eggs left and I hope they hatch. The baby birds are very tiny and full of fuzz. Their eyes are still shut and probably won't open for a couple of days. All the kids are really excited and want to see the birdies all the time. I try to tell them that we need to leave them alone because they need their mommy and their rest. They understood.
